About the role

The Director of Engineering is responsible for driving the strategic and technical direction of the engineering organization, with a strong focus on collaboration with the Product team. This role ensures the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions that align with business goals. By fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and cross-functional partnership, the Senior Director will help bridge the gap between product vision and technical execution, enabling the company to deliver customer-centric solutions efficiently and effectively.

What will you be doing?

  • Lead and scale multiple engineering teams (at least 20+ engineers) to deliver high-impact software solutions in alignment with business and product goals.
  • Collaborate closely with Product leadership to shape and execute a unified product-engineering strategy.
  • Drive the execution of strategic initiatives by setting clear engineering goals, tracking progress, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Build a high-performing engineering culture based on ownership, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions.
  • Act as a technical and strategic advisor to senior leadership, helping align technology investments with long-term business outcomes.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, coaching, and retention of top engineering talent across distributed teams.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and timelines effectively across concurrent projects and teams.
  • Experience working with or within the U.S.-based companies is a plus, especially in a cross-cultural, distributed environment.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and communication skills, capable of influencing and aligning diverse teams behind a common vision.

What are we looking for?

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in software engineering, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles managing multiple teams.
  • Demonstrated success in leading engineering organizations of 20+ people in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong experience in collaborating with Product Management and other cross-functional teams to deliver impactful product outcomes.
  • Track record of setting and executing strategic engineering goals aligned with company objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and align stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong leadership skills, including talent development, performance management, and team scaling.
  • Experience working with or for U.S.-based companies or international organizations is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of modern software development practices, architecture, and agile methodologies.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a  hybrid work environment.
  • Proficiency in Polish and English is required for this role

At AUCTANE we work in a hybrid model. This means that it’s up to you to choose whether you prefer office work, remote work or their combinations. Visits to the office will be necessary from time to time – you will set their frequency with your team. In the office, you have access to a workplace in a comfortable open space, fresh snacks and the best coffee in the city in our cafe and kitchen. You can use the relaxation rooms and our newly opened bookcrossing library. Working remotely, you use company equipment.
