Changes make my job interesting. An interview with Kuba on his 15th anniversary at AUCTANE

Our dynamic growth is perfectly reflected in the career of Kuba, our Senior Software Developer, who has been with us for 15 years. As he himself says, the AUCTANE of today is not the same company he started with in 2008. What is behind this statement? Where have we been together and how does Kuba see himself in this dynamic environment? We invite you to read on.

Kuba, you have been with AUCTANE for 15 years. During this time, you have had the opportunity to witness the dynamic changes in a company that today boasts excellent professionals and a great reputation. As one of our longest-serving experts, how do you see this development?

I often joke that I have worked in four different companies without changing position: I was recruited by Xlogics, worked at MetaPack, then at Stamps and now at AUCTANE. When I started here, our team worked in a small office in the centre of Zielona Góra on Kupiecka Street. After a while, our team moved to premises in Osiedle Pomorskie. Finally, we found premises in the North Zone. At first we occupied only a quarter of the building, but today we have offices in the whole building.

The philosophy of the company has also changed a lot over the years. There is a different working culture, innovative solutions are implemented, we work in teams with people from different countries. We move with the times. So the company I work for now has little in common with the one I started with.

Let’s talk about how these changes have affected your department. Do you feel them in your work?

They made it less boring and monotonous, for sure. Especially when new management comes in with new strategies and new systems. I can’t hide the fact that I don’t always feel it: as a seco-technical in-house administrator, I’m in charge of solving the problems of the people who work at AUCTANE, and that’s when it’s busiest. There are times when our team has to recreate the same processes from scratch, but this time on new systems.

Of course, this does not mean that I am against change and innovation. For example, I am happy when I can use new tools and technologies.

Today’s technology allows you to work from home. What made you decide to work remotely? Was it the result of a closure or were you already an advocate of this way of working?

I started working remotely when there was a small flood in the office. A pipe burst and water leaked through two floors. Obviously, the breakdown made remote working necessary. I quickly found out that this way of working suited me. It was then that pandemic set in and working from home became the norm for many others.

I am now slowly returning to working from the office. I appreciate the fact that AUCTANE always provides support and a problem-solving attitude, both in terms of equipment and getting things done, but also in terms of human relations.

We also look forward to seeing you back in the office, as we enjoy seeing each other – especially over coffee in the company café ;). With your return to the office, are you thinking of trying something new, such as working in a different department?

I would love to explore new departments, but I know it would be challenging for me to join a new team with no previous experience, as it would take time to learn a new set of responsibilities and issues.

In contrast, I feel comfortable in my current role. I am aware of the value I bring to the company: I know how to resolve employee issues efficiently and I am already familiar with our systems and procedures. I have considered moving to another department, but there are no concrete plans for change at the moment. But who knows what the future will bring?
