Analysts are on the front line. The story of Maciej

Every day, he sifts through a huge amount of information like the most efficient masonry sieve. At work, he appreciates the peace and quiet provided by remote work. How did it all start and why does he plan his future with us? Learn the story of Maciej, our requirements analyst, who has been with us for 3 years.

Maciej, what are you responsible for at AUCTANE?

I am a Requirements Analyst. This position is related to the process of integrating our platform with couriers. We deal with the requirements that allow such integration to be carried out efficiently and quickly. Currently, I am responsible for several courier groups, including GLS, and Inpost. It’s been two and a half years since I’ve been in the company, all the time in the same department. I feel good here, so I hope to stay here a little longer.

What made you 2.5 years ago to join us? Have you been involved in similar tasks in your previous position?

Before, I was an analyst, but my tasks were different. I was in charge of money laundering. Of course, I didn’t wash them myself, but I acted against them. As in AUCTANE, I also dealt with customer onboarding, also from the analytical side, but not as technically as it is done in AUCTANE. If I were to compare it, I would say that it is like moving from the University of Zielona Góra to MIT. With all due respect, of course, to the University that I graduated from and which is a great place to study. But still, the level is entirely different.

Besides this, let’s call it a “technological leap”, did anything else surprise you during your first days with AUCTANE?

Definitely COVID, basically lockdown. After a month of working in the office, I had to switch to remote work. They said then that it may take up to six months due to the COVID situation and I remember that I didn’t want to believe it. I thought we would come back after 2-3 months. Meanwhile, 2.5 years have passed and I am still in the home office. So that was the biggest surprise.

Remote work turned out to be so well organized that we introduced a permanent hybrid work mode. After all this time you spent at home, which has more advantages – remote or office work?

At the moment, I really appreciate working from home, although as I said, it was unthinkable at first. I have peace and quiet, I enjoy working in my home environment. I have reorganized my apartment life and got used to this mode. We have not completely given up office work, because as a team we organize meetings at the AUCTANE headquarters once every two weeks.

Peace and quiet are definitely the advantages of working at home. Are there any difficulties, for example, related to communication?

I had no such difficulties because we use communication channels. We are in constant contact so this is not a problem. For me, there are simply more advantages to working remotely. Fewer things are distracting, and I don’t have to waste time commuting to work, so I have extra time for my hobbies or just pleasures, which I would have to give up or limit when I had to travel to the office every day.

You mentioned your team – what kind of team do you create? What do you do and what are your challenges?

We are about 12 people. There are many challenges and they are mainly related to the responsibility we take on ourselves. We are on the front line when it comes to courier inquiries towards us. Our task is to extract the most important issues from all the information we receive. As though such a masonry sieve, we must sieve what is needed and what is not. I believe that this is an important and responsible task. Anyway, each of us as well as each of the team is an important mode in this machine.

You said at the beginning that you would like to stay in your team and in your position as long as possible. What makes you feel so good about your role?

Responsibilities are interesting, and it’s a kind of work that isn’t repetitive. In my previous job, the duties were practically the same and over time I felt that I had stopped growing. Here, something changes all the time, you can’t get bored, you have to keep up with these changes. Therefore, at the moment, what I assume is to continue to be here, develop, become a better employee and broaden my knowledge. This is what I focus on.

Then tell us what makes AUCTANE stand out as an employer in your opinion.

I think the people who make up this company. They are the added value. Everyone here wants me to develop. I feel they want well for me. It is not Polish behaviour, more Western, American. I appreciate it very much and I think that anyone who thinks similarly will find their way here.

We also value this approach and are delighted to be part of AUCTANE! Thanks for the interview.
